The Acura CL's braking system featured ventilated front disc brakes, a short ratio brake pedal for consistent feel, and a drum-in-disc design for the rear brakes. The CL had larger diameter 11.8-inch (300 mm) ventilated front disc brakes with increased rotor thickness to improve braking power and fade resistance, as well as a short ratio brake pedal for a consistent feel.
The rear brakes used a drum-in-disc design, with the disc portion used for normal braking and the drum for the parking brake.
The CL came standard with 4-wheel ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), which enhanced steering control during hard braking, especially on slick surfaces. The CL Type-S with the 5-speed Sequential SportShift had a special four-channel ABS system that was integrated with the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system.
The parking brake was operated by a push-on/push-off floor pedal, maximizing center console space.
